Let's talk about what's actually wrong.
The most useful first conversation is twenty minutes, costs nothing, and usually ends with a clearer view of the problem — whether or not you end up working with me.
To make the first message useful
Four lines is plenty.
You do not need to prepare a brief. Enough to tell me whether I am the right person is genuinely all it takes.
- Roughly how many employees, and in which cities
- What sector you are in
- What has prompted you to look for help now
- Whether there is a deadline — a notice, an inspection, a funding round, a joining date
Where I am
Based in
Vikas Puri
New Delhi 110018
India
In person across Delhi, Gurugram, Noida and Faridabad. Remote-first everywhere else.
Also working with companies in
- Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune, Hyderabad and Chennai
- The UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar
- Singapore, the United Kingdom and the United States
For companies outside India, calls are scheduled into your working hours. The advisory and documentation work is asynchronous, so the time difference matters less than people expect.
What happens after you get in touch
A short call, usually within a day or two. Twenty minutes, no charge, no proposal attached. The purpose is to understand what is actually going on — which is frequently not the thing described in the first message.
A straight answer on fit. If this is work I am the right person for, I will say what I would do and roughly what shape the engagement takes. If it is not — high-volume recruitment, a sector where I have no depth, or something that genuinely needs a lawyer rather than an HR adviser — I will say that instead. That answer is worth more to both of us than a proposal neither of us believes in.
A written scope, if it makes sense to continue. What is being delivered, over what period, and on what commercial basis. Nothing starts on a verbal understanding.
Things worth knowing
- Urgent matters. If you have a notice from the labour office, an inspection, a live disciplinary matter or a complaint under the POSH Act, say so in the first message. Those get looked at straight away, because the early decisions in them are the ones that matter most.
- Confidentiality. Anything you describe is treated as confidential from the first conversation, whether or not an engagement follows. I am happy to sign an NDA before any detail is shared.
- References. Available from past employers and consulting clients once a conversation is serious enough to warrant taking up someone else's time.
- Existing advisers. I work alongside your lawyers, payroll vendor and auditors rather than in place of them, and I will tell you when something belongs with them instead.
